Calypso Cascades Trail Frommer's Recommended

Location Access: Wild Basin Ranger Station
Other 1.8 miles one-way. Moderate

Frommer's Review

This trail first takes you to Copeland Falls and then continues upward and onward through a subalpine forest. For the first part of the hike, the trail follows the North St. Vrain Creek. You'll see Rocky Mountain maple, stumps of aspen cut down by beaver, wildflowers, and numerous birds. Continuing through a thick stand of lodgepole pine, you leave North St. Vrain Creek and follow Cony Creek as the trail becomes steeper, before arriving at the refreshing waterfall. The Calypso Cascades were named for the calypso, a purplish-pink member of the orchid family, also known as the fairy slipper. The starting elevation is 8,500 feet, and the trail has a 700-foot elevation gain.
