Frommer's Review
The trail heads east and uphill from the road before doubling back on itself to head west on level ground for a bit through lodgepole pines and aspens. Stay to the right at the first intersection, continuing through aspens and climbing along wide switchbacks. As you pause for breath, look to the north across Wild Basin to see, left to right, Chiefs Head, Pagoda Mountain, and Mount Meeker. A slow downhill grade brings you to Confusion Junction, a three-way intersection that for some unknown reason seems to disorient many hikers. Take the middle path and you'll be just fine. You'll now follow a gradual incline along the northwest flank of Meadow Mountain, crossing a fire corridor and several streams before going over a small ridge and finally descending to Finch Lake. The calm waters often display fine reflections of Copeland Mountain, located due west. The initial elevation is 8,470 feet, and there is a gain of 1,442 feet.
