Frommer's Review
From the Glacier Gorge trail head, continue past Alberta Fall and the junction for Mills Lake Trail . Take plenty of water and sunscreen because this trail alternates between lovely forests and open slopes. Panoramic views will capture your attention while you're on the open slopes, and, on the rest of the trail, close-ups of wildflowers, aspen, and limber pine will draw your focus. Close to the lake you'll find patches of snow well into summer, and who among us can resist the temptation of pitching snowballs in July?
The rocky shoreline of The Loch is dotted with striking limber pines, and tall mountains frame the scene. The sheer Cathedral Wall, popular with rock climbers, dominates the western side. From the northeastern end of The Loch, gaze across the lake to Timberline Falls , over a mile away. Above the falls is Taylor Peak, with a small glacier clinging to its left side. From some vantage points the larger Andrews Glacier, on the north flank of Taylor Peak, can be observed. Take the trail around the lake to find a private nook for a picnic if the popular northern shore is too crowded. The beginning elevation is 9,240 feet, and the elevation gain is 940 feet.
