Frommer's Review
This hike takes you past Copeland Falls, crosses Cony Creek, and heads west at Calypso Cascades (see earlier) before beginning a series of switchbacks up to Ouzel Falls. Look to the trees to the north for some wonderful views of Mount Meeker and Longs Peak. This part of the trail takes you through areas that were burned in a 1978 fire but are now peppered with lovely wildflowers, flitting butterflies, and grazing wildlife. As you climb through the rocks, the delightful sound of tumbling water draws you forward. Suddenly you're there -- gazing up at one of the loveliest waterfalls in the park. The best view is from the rocks on the south side, located just before the bridge that crosses the creek, but scramble onto them carefully as they are very slippery. Look for the chunky brown water ouzel, or American dipper, for whom the falls are named -- they dart into the water and behind the falls seeking food. The initial elevation is 8,500 feet, and the elevation gain is 950 feet.
