Frommer's Review
Follow the hike to The Loch and continue around the shady path on the lake's northwest side. The trail follows Icy Brook for just under a mile after The Loch. When you reach a fork in the trail, stay to the left for .25 mile to reach the catch basin of Timberline Falls. This beautiful open area is dotted with boulders on which you can rest while absorbing the sight and rushing sound of the three-tiered waterfall. This part of the trail climbs 1,210 feet above its initial elevation of 9,240 feet.
For those with time and energy, the trail continues up beside the waterfall, and over the slippery rocks -- which can be icy in early summer -- until you are above the tree line, as the waterfall's name indicates. A .2-mile climb over bedrock will bring you to the Lake of Glass and its wondrous views of The Loch and the magnificent peaks beyond. Perched among the rocks and the tundra, the Lake of Glass displays a barren beauty. Continue around the lake another .4 miles to the larger and even more desolate Sky Pond, below the east face of Taylor Peak. It's cold and windy here most of the time, but take your time heading down to enjoy the changing panoramic views. From Timberline Falls, the elevation increase to Sky Pond is 450 feet.
