Restaurants

The Sakya Manasarovar Hotel and the Sakya Monastery Restaurant serve decent cuisine. For Sichuanese, go to Gaoyuan Chuancai, 1 block south and east of the Sakya Monastery Guesthouse (tel. 0892/824-2479; meal for two ¥30-¥60/$3.90-$7.80/£1.95-£3.90; 8am-10pm). Dishes to try include mapo doufu (spicy tofu with chopped meat), yuxiang qiezi (literally "fish-flavored" eggplant, although there's no fish in the dish), and gongbao jiding (spicy chicken with cashews).
