A stalwart lunch stop, Caputo's is the sister business of an upscale market on the west side of downtown. Order at the counter, take a seat in the semi-industrial interior or on the parkside patio out front, and wait for your number to be called. The sandwiches and salads are terrific, made with fresh and flavorful ingredients, with an emphasis on Italian standbys: New Orleans-style muffaletas, meatball subs, and roasted peppers on focaccia are among the mouth-watering selections. Daily specials are available, as well as coffee and fountain drinks, but no beer or wine.
