A stalwart lunch stop, Caputo's is the sister business of an upscale market on the west side of downtown. Order at the counter, take a seat in the semi-industrial interior or on the parkside patio out front, and wait for your number to be called. The sandwiches and salads are terrific, made with fresh and flavorful ingredients, with an emphasis on Italian standbys. New Orleans-style muffulettas, meatball subs, and roasted peppers on focaccia are among the mouthwatering selections. Daily specials are available, as well as coffee and fountain drinks. Four nights a week, the deli transforms into the more upscale Tipica (tel. 801/328-0222), offering house-made pastas, risottos, soups, and salads and a nice selection of beer and wine.
