Especially for Kids

A number of the city parks provide plenty of recreational opportunities for kids and adults alike. In Dique do Tororó Park, Av. Marechal Costa e Silva s/n (tel. 071/3382-0847), kayaks and paddleboats are available for rent. This pleasant park is also known for the set of 6m-tall (20-ft.) sculptures of eight Orixás in the middle of the lake. In the evening these are beautifully illuminated.

Pituaçu Park, Av. Otávio Mangabeira s/n, Pituaçu, across from Pituaçu beach (tel. 071/3231-2829), contains a 2,500-hectare (1,000-acre-plus) reserve of Atlantic rainforest. In addition to the native species there are lots of palms, cashews, mangoes, and dendezeiros (the small dendê palm tree). This popular recreational park has 18km (11 miles) of cycle trails (plus bikes for rent) and a children's playground.
