The Aeroclube Plaza, Av. Otavio Mangabeira 6000 (tel. 071/3462-8000), is a large outdoor mall and entertainment complex which offers numerous activities for kids of various age levels. There's minigolf, bowling, go-kart racing for kids 12 and older, or Formula Jr. for younger drivers. There's also a climbing wall and of course a large variety of arcade and video games. Open daily from 10am to 10pm (restaurants and bars stay open later).
A number of the city parks provide plenty of recreational opportunities for kids and adults alike. In Dique do Tororó Park, Av. Marechal Costa e Silva s/n (tel. 071/3382-0847), kayaks and paddle boats are available for rent. This pleasant park is also known for the set of 20-foot-tall sculptures of eight Orixás in the middle of the lake. In the evening these are beautifully illuminated.
Pituaçu Park, Av. Otavio Mangabeira s/n, Pituaçu, across from Pituaçu beach (tel. 071/3231-2829), contains a 1,000-acre-plus reserve of Atlantic rainforest. In addition to the native species there are lots of palms, cashews, mangos, and dendezeiros (the small dendê palm tree). This popular recreational park has 18km (11 miles) of cycle trails (plus bikes for rent) and a children's playground.
