Founded in 1978 and part of the Salzburg Museum, this museum shares an entrance with the Museum of Historic Musical Instruments. In fact, a ticket for that museum also entitles you to admission to the Toy Museum -- or vice versa. The Toy Museum possesses the largest collection in Austria of historical European toys. Feast upon an array of antique dolls and doll houses, paper theaters, metal and wooden toys, and soft and furry toys, especially the collection of teddy bears.
There is also a selection of optical toys, tin and pewter figures, and railway sets. A Punch and Judy show is scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday at 3pm except in summer. An on-site shop sells a wide array of toys in the Bürgerspital or civilian hospital, which was constructed around the most beautiful Renaissance courtyard in Salzburg.
