This is the most glamorous and prestigious restaurant in Salzburg, thanks to a historic pedigree and cuisine that defines it as one of the most appealing Relais & Château members in Austria. Named after the medieval archbishop of Salzburg who commissioned the construction of the Schloss Mönchstein in which it's housed, the establishment is composed of two separate dining rooms, both elegantly outfitted. There's also an outdoor terrace open in good weather. Menu items change with the seasons and the whims of the chefs, but might include delectable king prawns with sesame oil and fresh ginger, butter-fried filets of pikeperch nestled on a puree of celery, filet of sole in an herb-enriched crust with a mild mustard sauce, or a roasted loin of lamb dredged in pumpkin seeds and served with sage sauce. In autumn and early winter, savory game dishes include medallions of venison with rosemary sauce.
