Brandstätter

One of the best restaurants in Salzburg is actually right outside the city limits in Liefering, lying just off the Autobahn-Mitte. It's northwest of the city, about 30 minutes by bus, or 20 minutes if you prefer to take a taxi. Brandstätter is an intimate, cozy choice for a special meal. Diners like this friendly place so much that they often linger long after their meal is finished.

The daily menus are seasonal so that the best and freshest produce, game, and meat are used. We recommend beginning with the terrine of goose liver with an apple-and-celery salad and proceeding to the salmon trout with white-wine sauce. Some dishes might be only for the adventurous -- for example, veal lungs with dumplings -- but others are quite elegant, including a perfectly cooked roast pheasant breast with a bacon-and-cranberry sauce. Finish your meal with one of the homemade desserts, such as a hazelnut parfait.
