Carpe Diem Finest Fingerfood

This is a new concept in Salzburg dining, a huge, exclusively styled pub on two floors, with lounges, a cafe area, and bar. It's the creation of Dietrich Mateschitz, who became famous for inventing the energy drink Red Bull. He is equally passionate about sports and cuisine, and has hired the noted star chef, Jörg Wörther, to oversee the delights that emerge from the kitchen here. The chef's creations are intensely flavored, often combining different temperatures. For example, you might be served a warm scallop resting atop cool whipped alpine cream. Food is packed into waffle shells or cones. Some of the dishes we sampled -- and left raving about -- included hot smoked catfish with endive salad in a Dijon mustard marinade, yellowfin tuna in salad with avocado and ginger in a pumpkin cone, and, finally, prime beef with cream spinach and horseradish in a potato cone. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all with different dishes, can be savored here, and the cafe and bar are the perfect places for a gourmet snack.
