Review of Chez RolandRoland Kübler has maintained this stylish, unusual cocktail bar since the mid-1970s. In the process, he's entertained some of the biggest names of the Salzburg Festival and nurtured an arts-conscious crowd ranging in age from 25 to 75. The bar is set within an old salt storage cellar with a vaulted ceiling that allows natural illumination. You can always order a martini, but the large majority of drinkers here opt for glasses of Austrian wine. Priced at 3€ to 5€ ($4.80-$8), they include many vintages of Styrian chardonnays and sauvignons. There's also Beck's beer selling for 2.80€ ($4.50) and a limited menu of "toasts" (warm sandwiches). It's open daily 7pm to at least 4am and usually later, depending on business. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
