Frommer's Review
This longtime local favorite was forced from its previous location (at Fifth and Hawthorn in Bankers Hill) by impending redevelopment. It now finds itself inside the loving embrace of the North Park Theatre, a magnificently rehabilitated 1928 vaudeville house located just east of Hillcrest. The move has been a boon to both the restaurant and to North Park, which has become one of San Diego's most vibrant neighborhoods. The California fusion-style menu features items like roasted chicken breast filled with goat cheese and artichoke stuffing; filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce and Maui onions; and Creole-style catfish. Hawthorn's also offers a three-course dinner for two, with bottle of wine, for $65 (Mon-Wed); and an early bird three-course meal from 5 to 6pm (except on show nights) for $25. Sunday brunch is served from 10am to 2pm.
