Frommer's Review
The three-story Blue Sea Lodge is a reliable choice in a prime location that keeps up with the other properties in the Best Western chain. And, despite the rates listed, this can be a bargain. There are many ways to get a discount -- including just asking. Aesthetically, the original rooms are a snore, but nevertheless boast a balcony or patio and a handful of necessary comforts. Rooms with full ocean views overlook the sand and have more privacy than those on the street, but the Pacific Beach boardwalk has never been known for quiet or solitude. If an ocean view is not important, save a few bucks and check in to one of the units in an expansion building that opened in 2003; the decor is brighter, more enticing. The lobby offers a cafe for guests in the morning, and its heated pool and Jacuzzi are steps from the beach.
