Frommer's Review
One of the community's most successful arts organizations, San Diego Opera has been presenting work here since 1965. Under the leadership of Ian Campbell since 1983, the annual season runs from late January to mid-May, with five offerings at downtown's 3,000-seat Civic Theatre, as well as occasional recitals at smaller venues. The productions range from well-trod warhorses like Carmen to edgier works like Alban Berg's Wozzeck, all performed by local singers and name talent from around the world. The annual lineup is announced in May, and nonsubscription tickets go on sale by December. The box office is open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, or you can order tickets online; $20 rush tickets become available 90 minutes before curtain.
