Founded in 1985 and focusing on plays with gay and lesbian themes, Diversionary's past hits have included M Butterfly, Love! Valour! Compassion!, and Psycho Beach Party. The 104-seat theater is in the charming neighborhood of University Heights, 2 blocks north of El Cajon Boulevard. The box office is open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 8pm (when shows are playing). It's a parking-challenged area, so it's a good idea is to come early and have dinner at one of the neighborhood eateries.
