Hotel Real ReviewThis grande dame is the most splendid and luxurious hotel in the entire area. Architecturally noteworthy -- it was the first building in the region constructed of reinforced concrete -- the Real was built in 1917 to house the entourage of courtiers who accompanied King Alfonso XIII on his midsummer vacations to Santander. Purchased and completely renovated by the prestigious HUSA chain, it is once again one of the most elegant hotels in northern Spain, filled with updated reminders of a more gracious age. Located about 3km (2 miles) east of the commercial center of town, near the site of the Royal Palace on a hillside above Magdalena Beach, the Real contains richly conservative and spacious rooms, most with views of the sea. The hotel also has a thalassotherapy center. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
