Frommer's Review
Merchant Court's convenient location and facilities make it very popular with leisure travelers. Situated on the Singapore River, the hotel has easy access not only to Chinatown and the Historic District, but also to Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, with their multitude of dining and nightlife options. In 2003 it became even more convenient when the new MRT stop opened just outside its doors. While this hotel's guest rooms aren't the biggest or most plush in the city, I never feel claustrophobic due to the large windows, uncluttered decor, and cooling atmosphere. Try to get a room with a view of the river or landscaped pool area. Convenience is provided by a self-service launderette, drink and snack vending machines on each floor, and a small fridge, so you can buy your own provisions. The hotel touts itself as a city hotel with a resort feel, with a small but nicely landscaped pool area (with a view of the river).
Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; outdoor pool; fitness center and spa w/Jacuzzi, sauna, steam, massage and beauty treatments; 24-hr. room service; babysitting; same-day laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; executive-level rooms

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
