Atrium lobbies are popular in Singapore, and I think Le Meridien's is the original and one of the brightest. Long, straight corridors look out into the huge, open, skylighted space and below to the colorful lobby lounge decorated with plants and fresh flowers. Just at the southern tip of Orchard Road, Le Meridien offers good access to shopping activities, plus the attractions of the nearby Historic District. Standard rooms are light and fresh with simple European decor and subtle Chinese accents. Voice mail and extra dataports for laptop usage make for convenience, and some rooms have balconies. Bathrooms are state-of-the-art. The Jade and Opal suites are the best spaces, but the executive club facilities are not as attractive as other hotels in this category.
