Frommer's Review
Most of the hotels in this price category are at least a 10-minute walk outside the main drag, but Hotel Grand Central is right on it, with an exclusive Orchard Road address. The hotel always runs at high occupancy, its lobby a hustle and bustle of mostly regional vacation travelers who, truth to tell, seem to have worn dull the front counter staff's service edge. The building was originally eight floors, but renovations added an extra floor to the top, which houses executive-club rooms. The corridors are on the dreary side, and the guest rooms and bathrooms are a little run-down. Windows are positioned high, so there's not much in the way of views -- although rooms in the center of the building offer views of rooms on the opposite side, if that's your idea of fun. To the side of the rooftop pool is a special corner reserved for dead hotel houseplants.
