Frommer's Review
A truly novel approach to accommodations, The Scarlet is a groovy little boutique hotel dripping with the sensuality of an old-time bordello. From the moment you enter, your every sense is tickled, from the sound of a trickling fountain to the glistening polished black marble floors, soft red velvet furnishings, and cool soundtrack from the leather-clad lobby lounge. The location, in a group of restored shophouses, means rooms are small; in fact, I don't even recommend the postage stamp-size guest rooms (which are actually quite moderately priced) unless you're Lilliputian. The only real way to experience the Scarlet is to splurge for one of the suites, charmingly outfitted in all assortment of luxury fabrics -- glittering, plush, velvety, silky, fluffy, textiles, draped and dangled with tassels, custom furnishings in black, gold or silver lacquer, and with names like Swank, Passion, Lavish, Splendour, and Opulent. Perfect if you love over-the-top glam. A tiny rooftop Jacuzzi and fitness center are the only leisure facilities available.
