Frommer's Review
On the outskirts of the village of L'Orient lies this intimate and well-furnished hotel. Because of La Banane's small size and carefully restricted access, it seems like a private hideaway. The Brussels-born owner, De Nys Philippe, uses such accents as Artemide lighting, Casa Milano canopy beds, and Belgian linens to effect a change of pace from Creole designs.
The hotel is elegant and harmonious. Nine bungalows are scattered around a minimalist two-tiered pool. Bathrooms open onto patios or private gardens so that taking a shower becomes a perfumed ritual in a setting of such plants as frangipani, jasmine, and hibiscus. Set on flat, low-lying grounds, the gardens are richly planted with bananas, flowering shrubs, and palms, and are just a 3-minute walk from the beach.
