Don't limit yourself to your hotel for dining. Most visitors sample diversity in their dining at lunch when, chances are, they are out indulging in beach life, shopping, or seeing the sights. Christiansted is filled with excellent restaurants offering lunch, but lunch in Frederiksted is a bit dicey if cruise ships have arrived. If so, the few restaurants here may be packed with your next-door neighbors (the ones you went to St. Croix to avoid).
At night, dining becomes more of a problem if you want to venture out. If you're not familiar with the badly lit roads and driving on the left, driving to the restaurant of your choice might present some difficulties. Of course, the easiest way to go is have your hotel call a taxi and let the driver deliver you to a restaurant. Agree upon the hour you're to be picked up, and he'll even return for you, or the restaurant will summon a cab for you if you don't want to lock yourself into a time frame. Most of the resorts are along the north shore and dining at a different resort every night (unless you're on a meal plan) is easily arranged by taxi.
If you're staying at one of the small hotels or guesthouses in and around Christiansted, you can even walk to your restaurant of choice. If you're at a hotel in Frederiksted, the night is yours, as the cruise-ship crowds have departed and there is a less expensive, earthier, and more laid-back feeling in the small dining rooms here.
