Discovery at Marigot Bay

Splashy and hedonistic, this sprawling resort 8km (5 miles) south of Castries opens onto what author James Michener called "the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean." It occupies a landscaped 3-hectare (7 1/2 acre) site that stands upward from a marina and across the water, a 5-minute ferryboat ride to the nearest good beach. The bulky timbering, dark-stained wooden sheathing, and stalwart masonry foundations evoke alpine Europe more than the Caribbean. Indonesian four-poster beds and dark-wood furnishings fill the rooms, each with big bathrooms with walk-in "drench shower." Suites come with full kitchens and living rooms, and half of them also have plunge pools. The 57 suites can be subdivided into 124 conventional double rooms.
