Time and food fads have passed it by since its opening in 1897, but we still view this as one of the best and most reasonably priced restaurants in Stockholm. It has survived wars, disasters, and changing food tastes, and still manages to pack 'em in, so it must be doing something right.
In a city where diners have been known to faint when presented with their tabs, it keeps its prices sane, and the food is still good and fresh. Don't expect genteel service -- the clattering of china can sometimes be almost deafening, but few of the regular patrons seem to mind. First-rate menu choices include various preparations of beef, salmon, trout, veal, and chicken, which frequently make up the daily specials that often are preferred by lunch patrons. The fixed-price lunch is served only Monday to Friday 11am to 2pm. Every Friday night, after meal service ends, the place is sometimes reconfigured into a gay bar and dance club, a sign of the changing times.
