Hotel Arcadia ReviewBelieve it or not, this five-story, angular hotel, today a first-class choice, was once a featured place to stay in our now-defunct Scandinavia on $10 a Day guide. During the school year it was a dormitory, but in summer, the rooms were rented to visitors. In 1995, it was renamed the Arcadia and restored as a first-class hotel. Students of yesterday wouldn't recognize the place today, although it still carries some of the aura of its 1950s-style architecture (no great compliment). It's located on a tree-lined boulevard on a hillside with a good view, a 5-minute walk from the railway station. The hotel has a restaurant, Babylon, serving Swedish and international food, and there is an outdoor terrace for sunbathing and reading. Be warned in advance that bedrooms here are not particularly plush or large, but they are well maintained, with good beds and small but adequate bathrooms. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
