Tips for Vegetarian TravelersWhile carnivorous Texans are famous for their cattle raising, vegetarian options, while perhaps not as prevalent as in the most progressive states, are available in all large cities. It is particularly conspicuous in Austin, the largest college town in Texas and the state's most progressive-leaning city (ranked by GoVeg.com as America's eighth most vegetarian-friendly large city, it is home to the ever-growing chain Whole Foods). Some helpful websites include www.vegetarianusa.com/city/Texas.html, which includes a list of health-food stores and vegetarian restaurants; www.ecomall.com/vegi/tex.htm, which contains a smattering of restaurants across the state; and the general sites VegDining.com and VegCooking.com.
