Getting There -- Kennebunk is off Exit 3 of the Maine Turnpike. Kennebunkport is 3 1/2 miles southeast of Kennebunk on Port Road (Rte. 35).

Visitor Information -- The Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce (tel. 800/982-4421 or 207/967-0857; www.visitthekennebunks.com) can answer questions year-round by phone or at its office on Route 9 next to Meserve's Market. The Kennebunkport Information Center (tel. 207/967-8600), operated by an association of local businesses, is off Dock Square (next to Ben & Jerry's) and open daily throughout summer and fall.

Getting Around -- A local "trolley" service (tel. 207/967-3686; www.intowntrolley.com) -- actually, it's a bus with a tour narrator -- makes stops in and around Kennebunkport and also serves the beaches. The fare is a steep $9 per adult ($5 for children 2-14) per day, but you do get unlimited trips.
