Frommer's Review
Operated by the same owners as the Grafton Beach Resort , this pricey hotel is definitely five-star and definitely deluxe. For those who want to live in style but don't want a megaresort like the Hilton, the Courlan is a good choice. It's named for the bay on the western edge of the island on which it sits. A soft, sandy beach is at its door and everything is set against a backdrop of bougainvillea, white frangipani, and hibiscus. Constructed to fit in with its natural surroundings, the hotel was built of stone and teak harvested from farms on Trinidad, then furnished with handcrafted mahogany pieces and decorated with original artwork. The floors are covered in Italian porcelain tile, and the ceilings are made from Guyanan hardwood. The bedrooms are handsomely tropical in decor, with two phones, king-size beds, and large balconies. Bathrooms are small, but equipped with robes, scales, phones, and tub/shower combinations.
The hotel offers a Caribbean-style bistro and an international a la carte restaurant. The food is among the best on the island. There's also nightly entertainment.
The spa specializes in cell therapy. It has a koi pond and aerobics and offers consultations in nutrition, fitness coaching, and ozone-and-steam detoxing, and even fresh-fruit facials and full-body compression "release" massages.
