This cozy and intimate restaurant/bar is owned and managed by a man who speaks excellent English and loves to have foreign guests. In fact, because the place is a little hard to find, they'll fetch you if you call from Akasaka-mitsuke Station. Open since 1966 and claiming to have introduced sangria and espresso to Japan, Kana Uni features such main dishes as sliced raw tenderloin, steaks, beef stew, grilled fish, sautéed scallops, and poached filet of sole with sea-urchin sauce. But the real treat is the soft live jazz nightly from 7:30pm to 1:30am (music charge ¥1,500/$14 per person), so after dinner, relax with cocktails and enjoy the ambience. The red rose on each table, by the way, symbolizes the owner's favorite song, which is also the nightly closing number. Guesses, anyone?
