Frommer's Review
Established in 1871, the Keihin is the oldest hotel in Shinagawa, and with the opening of much fancier luxury hotels nearby, is about a century away from being the best hotel in the neighborhood. Although the present brick building, dating from the 1930s and updated in the 1960s, doesn't have any of the graceful ambience you might wish for in a hotel this age, it does possess a certain charm, and the staff is friendly and accommodating, happy to see the occasional foreign guest. Rooms tend to be dark and gloomy -- especially the single rooms, which are tiny and may face another building. The three Japanese-style rooms, in contrast, are simple but nice. Rooms facing the front are plagued by traffic noise. Still, the hotel's location across from Shinagawa Station, served by the Yamanote Line, commuter trains to Kamakura, and Shinkansen bullet train, makes it convenient for sightseeing.
