When I come to the desert, I want to be in the desert, not in the middle of the city. That's why I love this modern B&B. It sits high on a hill surrounded by saguaros and is just down a dirt road from Tucson Mountain Park, which is every bit as beautiful as Saguaro National Park. La Zarzuela has four colorfully decorated guest rooms spread around this sprawling modern Santa Fe-style building. The pool and hot tub are built on the edge of the desert, while courtyards and patios have splashes of colorful flowers in their landscaping. It's all very Southwestern, the perfect place to stay if you want to explore the desert. For all this seclusion, the inn is surprisingly close to downtown Tucson.
