Planning a Trip

Getting There -- The New York State Thruway (I-90) passes through the heart of it all. Amtrak (tel. 315/797-8962), Greyhound (tel. 315/734-4471), and Adirondack Trailways (tel. 800/776-7548) all arrive at Union Station, 321 Main St. The major airport in the area is Syracuse Hancock International.

Visitor Information -- For the most detailed info, visit or call the Oneida County Convention & Visitors Bureau, quite literally right off I-90 exit 31 (tel. 800/426-3132; Mon-Thurs 9am-7pm; Fri-Sun 9am-6pm). For general information, contact the Central Leatherstocking Region tourist office (tel. 800/233-8778).

Getting Around -- A car is more than a little helpful. And while half the fun is in winding along smaller local roads, I-90 provides the quickest route between major points; just be aware that it's a toll road. If you need a taxi, try City Cab (tel. 315/724-5454) or Courtesy Cab Co. (tel. 315/797-7272).
