Turning Stone Resort & Casino Review

A sprawling, 700-room resort with lots of restaurants, three 18-hole golf courses (plus two par-9s), three pools, and two spas to complement the ringing slot machines, the Oneida Indian-run Turning Stone has accommodations for every price point and type of traveler. The casino hotel has standard rooms that are basic, but suites are large and come with upgraded amenities. The "tower" has dramatic, contemporary rooms and amenities such as balconies and fireplaces, not to mention great views of the rolling countryside from the upper floors. Most luxe is the "lodge," which feels like a separate resort. Heavy on wood and modern decor, the spacious suites here boast balconies, and some even have outdoor Jacuzzis. The most affordable options are down the road in the clean, comfortable "inn," a converted Super 8 that was completing an extensive renovation at press time; a free shuttle transports guests to the casino complex. Book a massage in the Skaná Spa -- it's a soothing environment with several treatment rooms, along with mineral baths and Jacuzzis. One snag: The resort had no liquor license, but guests can bring their own.

Facilities: 13 restaurants, from carryout to formal dining; airport transfer ($75); 2 large exercise rooms; 3 18-hole golf courses, 2 9-hole courses; 2 Jacuzzis; massage; room service (in most of hotel); 3 indoor pools; 2 spas; 4 indoor tennis courts, 4 outdoor

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
