The Inner Harbour/James Bay area isn't especially blessed with cheap digs, but this Edwardian manor on the edge of Beacon Hill Park is one of the few. Built in 1907, it still offers one of the best accommodations deals downtown. The standard rooms in the main building of this four-story walk-up are somewhat small and very simply furnished. The real bargains: the adjacent cottage and four suites located next door in a renovated heritage property. The two studios are on the small side but come with a separate full-size kitchen; the larger one-bedroom suites also feature a full kitchen, a bedroom with queen-size bed, and a separate living room area. Furnishings and decorations are comfortable and pleasantly done. The cottage is a fully furnished, two-bedroom house cater-cornered to The James Bay Inn. With space for eight people and a peak-season price of C$240 (US$204/£108), it's a steal.
