If you're looking for a small, quiet, luxury boutique hotel off the beaten tourist track, consider the Miraloma in Sidney. The building, with a three-story central atrium lobby area, is fairly new and was completely refurbished in 2005. The spacious, well-decorated rooms come with sumptuous beds, large bathrooms (heated floors and towel racks, separate showers, and soaker tubs), gas fireplaces, and a high-end kitchen or kitchenette; all but two have balconies. Surrounded by a pretty garden, the hotel is next door to a historic home that once served as the lieutenant governor's getaway residence, and a 5-minute walk to Van Isle marina. The Swartz Bay-Vancouver ferry terminals are 10 minutes to the north, Victoria is 20 minutes to the south, or you can bike into the seaside town of Sidney (known for its bookstores) on one of the hotel's complimentary bikes.
