Of the huge resort motels lining Nantucket Sound in South Yarmouth, Red Jacket has the best location. It is the last hotel at the end of the road and borders Parker's River on the west, so sunsets are particularly fine. Families who want all the fixings will find them here, though the atmosphere can be a bit impersonal. Some of the activities include kayaking, paddleboat and sailboat rentals, catamaran cruises, a daily summertime children's program of supervised sports and activities (which may take advantage of the playground), minigolf, shuffleboard, horseshoes, badminton, and basketball and volleyball (one court of each). All rooms have a balcony or private porch; you'll want one overlooking the private beach on Nantucket Sound or looking out toward Parker's River. Some rooms have Jacuzzis. In season, cottages rent only by the week, but in the shoulder seasons, you can rent them by the night.
