Frommer's Review
This is the grand address for Zamora, a parador of tranquillity and charm. The site has always played a legendary role in Zamora. Originally fortified as an alcazaba by the Moors during their occupation of Zamora, it was rebuilt in 1459 by the count of Alva y Aliste. Today the structure retains the severe, high-ceilinged dignity of its 15th-century Gothic form. Renovated by the Spanish government in the late 1960s, it is one of the most beautiful paradores in Spain, and obviously the best and most tranquil place to stay in town.
Set 2 blocks south of Plaza Mayor, near the junction of Plaza de Viriato and Calle Ramos Carrión, the parador is richly decorated with medieval armor, antique furniture, tapestries, and potted plants. In winter, glass partitions close off a large inner patio centered on an antique well; baronial fireplaces provide much-appreciated warmth. Midsize rooms are white walled, well maintained, and tastefully decorated with conservative furniture, including beds with firm mattresses. The tidy bathrooms are equipped with tub/shower combos.
