On the road to the Castilian wine capital of Toro, this magnificent modern country retreat is geared to wine-lovers. Set in the middle of D.O. Toro vineyards, the hotel was constructed as part of a small winery complex. (Guests get a free tour.) Grape products figure in the spa treatments, and the restaurant menus are constructed to put the choice of wine before the choice of main dish. The rooms mimic a modern men’s private club: Walls are paneled with light wood, large windows take in vast views of the countryside, and the upholstery, bedding, and drapery are all in neutral tones. The graciously landscaped grounds include a “library” vineyard of grape varietals. The hotel makes an excellent base for touring Toro wineries as well as the historical attractions of Zamora.
