Las Catalinas is an entire posh, car-free beach town that was completely designed and constructed by a group of developers in a matter of a few years. The core of the city—an almost Mediterranean-like grid of winding, cobblestone streets lined with clay-tile topped townhouses—is intact and a beach club, a growing number of restaurants and shops, plus a couple of hotels are up and running. Up in the hills more houses and residential developments continue to be built. Sustainability is a key feature here and the development includes a major reforestation project and wastewater management.
