A couple of new spots have opened in the Poconos. The first luxury spa to open in the area in over a decade, Lodge at Woodloch, Route 590 East (tel. 866/953-8500; www.thelodgeatwoodloch.com), has a private 15-acre lake, 75 acres of woods and gardens, 27 treatment rooms in the full-service spa, a fitness room, a golf course, and several high-end eateries. Also new is the family resort Great Wolf Lodge, 1 Great Wolf Dr., Scotrum (tel. 570/688-9899; www.greatwolflodge.com), which has 401 rooms, a 78,000-square-foot water park, a confectionery for sweet tooths, an Aveda spa, and two on-site eateries.
Built in 1852, the beautiful Hotel Fauchère, 401 Broad St. (tel. 570/409-1212; www.hotelfauchere.com), was the de rigueur inn for visiting big shots like Henry Ford, Ogden Nash, and a Rockefeller or two. Now, it's been recently renovated and reopened as a luxurious boutique hotel in the quaint town of Milford. The old charm of the hotel's broad porches, wide-planked floors, and blue Pennsylvania stone accents remains intact, but the towel warmers, fancy Frette linens, and WiFi access in all 16 guest rooms are thoroughly modern.
