Getting There

U.S. 1 runs north and south through Southern Pines, N.C. 211 runs east and west, U.S. 15/501 reaches Pinehurst from the north, and there's direct area access to I-95, I-85, and I-40. You really need a car to get around this entire area.

Raleigh-Durham is the nearest commercial airport. Moore County has a small private airport with a 5,500-foot runway. If you are flying in yourself, call for ramp-space reservations (tel. 910/692-3212). A Hertz car-rental desk is at the terminal (tel. 910/692-5858). Call ahead for reservations. Amtrak (tel. 800/USA-RAIL [872-7245]; www.amtrak.com) has one northbound and one southbound train daily through Southern Pines.
