Anna Brooke
Anna’s writing career started in journalism as a film critic for Time Out Paris. Today she is the author of seven travel guidebooks for Frommer’s and has written for multiple major publications, including the Financial Times, The Times and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, where she is a long-standing France expert. She is also an award-winning children’s book author, known for Middle Grade comedy and interactive Picture Books. Recent titles include Death by Chocolate and Murder Unwrapped, the first books in a new cozy crime series, Coco Bean Investigates, set in France (and inspired by her guidebook travels). When not writing, she has been an actress and an electro-pop artist, performing on stage and composing songs for films and commercials. Raised in Britain, she now lives in Paris with her French-Canadian husband and son.
British-born Anna Brooke is a Paris-based travel writer and children’s author whose 23-year career spans journalism, guidebook writing, and fiction. For more than two decades, she has built a reputation as a specialist in travel—particularly Paris and France (Paris has been her home since 2000)—while also emerging as a recognized voice in contemporary children’s literature.
Anna’s writing career began in journalism, as a film critic for Time Out Paris. From there, she expanded into travel writing, contributing to major UK newspapers and travel publications (including the Financial Times, The Times and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine), and authoring seven guidebooks on Paris and France for Frommer’s.
Over the years, her first-person writing has involved trudging through Paris’ sewers, visiting the Phantom’s lake under the Garnier Opera House and making bread in a tiny Parisian basement bakery. During Covid, she gave on-the-ground accounts of life in Paris for The Times (UK). She also covered the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics from a lifestyle and travel perspective.
On the digital side, Anna has undertaken multiple, large-scale editorial projects for a big-tech mapping giant, including writing and editing content for tens of thousands of hotels and restaurants worldwide.
Since 2020, she has successfully expanded into children’s literature, earning awards and recognition that complement her longstanding reputation as a travel writer. Notable recent children’s titles include Death by Chocolate and Murder Unwrapped, the first books in a new cozy crime series, Coco Bean Investigates, set in France (and inspired by her guidebook travels).
