Ruffin Prevost

Ruffin Prevost lives in Cody, Wyoming, at the eastern edge of Yellowstone National Park, where he has worked for more than two decades as an investigative reporter, feature writer, editor, and photographer.

He is the Wyoming correspondent for Reuters and a frequent contributor to The New York Times. His work has also appeared in major outlets, including National Geographic, the Chicago Tribune, U.S. News & World Report, the Vancouver Sun, and numerous publications throughout Montana and Wyoming.

Ruffin is editor of Points West, the membership magazine of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, and he previously served as the Wyoming bureau chief for the Billings Gazette, Montana’s largest newspaper. He also worked as managing editor for WyoFile, Wyoming’s premier nonprofit news outlet.

An active, award-winning member of the Society of American Travel Writers, Ruffin also won first place in the 2024 Society of Professional Journalists Top of the Rockies Awards (small newsroom beat reporting category) for his Yellowstone Park coverage.

He is the founding editor of Yellowstone Gate, a news website with a global audience of curious travelers and engaged locals passionate about Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks and surrounding public lands. He holds a B.A. in journalism, with honors in creative writing, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
