Vic O’Sullivan FCCA is an award-winning travel journalist and author based in Bunratty, County Clare, Ireland. Born in Toronto, Canada, Vic moved to Ireland as a boy; a dual perspective that deeply informs his writing on Irish culture and the "planned" landscape of the West.
Before pivoting to journalism, Vic spent considerable time working in high-level finance, specifically in aircraft leasing and hotel development. As a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA), he brings a unique, data-driven perspective to his reporting on the global hospitality industry and aviation sectors. He subsequently went on to study both Journalism and Creative Writing at the University of Limerick, as well as holding a higher diploma in Digital Media at TUS, Limerick. Vic also holds a certificate in Creative Writing from Oxford University.
Vic is a prolific contributor to international publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Times, The Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Condé Nast Traveler, The Observer, Travel + Leisure, The Irish Times, and AFAR. He has served as a lead contributor for Fodor’s Travel guides for over a decade and is the author of DK Eyewitness guides, including the "Go Here" Sustainability Guide to the World and the DK Eyewitness Ireland guide.
His work covers most of Europe, with a specialist focus on sustainable travel and off-season exploration. Recent features have seen him covering Italy, France, Belgium, the UK, and Ireland in articles that lean heavily on rail travel and "slow" tourism.
In 2023, Vic was awarded the Silver Lowell Thomas Journalism Award for Foreign Travel, the highest honor in travel journalism, administered by the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW).
