North America's Largest Outdoor Adventure Course Coming to Chicago Suburbs

A huge new outdoor adventure park is scheduled to open this summer in the Chicago suburbs.

Set on 300 wooded acres in the town of Lemont (located about 30 miles southwest of the city's Loop), The Forge: Lemont Quarries Adventure Park will get adrenaline pumping with a range of invigorating activities, many involving navigating the park's leafy canopy.

The centerpiece of the Forge is what's being billed as the "largest outdoor adventure course in North America," an aerial ropes network that strings together more than 260 ziplines (some over water), climbing elements, and freestanding towers as high as 120 feet.

A mountain-biking skills track, kayaking routes, and a kids' zone will be onsite as well. For food, a restaurant and beer garden are in the works. The park's amphitheater is intended for sit-down programming such as concerts and film screenings.

Lemont's civic leaders are hoping the park eventually brings in a million visitors per year, according to WGN.

The Forge's opening date is Memorial Day, May 25—weather and coronavirus permitting. Admission prices haven't been announced yet, but you can already buy an annual membership.
