Women-Only Taxi Service Debuts in Paris

Women have a new option for getting around Paris.

A taxi service called Women Drive has debuted in the French capital. The business is staffed with female drivers and geared toward female passengers.

The hope is that customers won't have to worry about "prying eyes or indelicate questions," as the Women Drive website puts it. The company also wants to provide job opportunities for women cabbies in a field that remains overwhelmingly male-dominated.

Back seats of each car in the fleet are stocked with bottled water and computer tablets. Of special interest to tourists: Drivers are multilingual and offer concierge services.

The hourly rate is €50 (US$60), but you can arrange for shorter trips. The flat rate for eight hours is €350 (US$419). You can make a reservation online.

Though this is the first business of its kind in France, there are a few like it in other parts of the world, including She Taxis in New York City.
