Alexandria has several nice high-end hotels and a couple of really good budget places, but almost nothing in the midrange that I can recommend. Travelers looking for something better than the budget options (which are very basic) should spend their time bargain-hunting and negotiating among the locally-run expensive hotels (The Metropole, The Windsor Palace, and the San Giovanni, for example) instead of trolling through the overpriced, dreary, and usually unclean midrange options that can be found on the Internet.
