For mouthwatering smoked salmon and other local foodstuffs, stop on your way in or out of Chiloé at Die Raucherkate, a German-owned smokery located about 2km (1 1/4 miles) before the Chacao ferry dock (tel. 9/444-5912). There is a SMOKED SALMON sign that can be easy to miss, so keep your eyes peeled.
